- Define the top-level SoC architecture and microarchitecture for a flight-controller device based on an Arm Cortex-class real-time core, including the CPU subsystem, cache/TCM, interrupt and power-domain structure.
- Specify the on-chip interconnect (AMBA AXI/AHB/APB matrices and bridges), address map, clock and reset architecture, and multi-power-domain partitioning.
- Define the peripheral and I/O complement required for flight control — redundant IMU interfaces (SPI/I2C), motor/servo PWM and high-resolution timers, CAN-FD (DroneCAN/UAVCAN), UART telemetry/GPS, USB and Ethernet.
- Drive PPA budgeting and trade-off analysis (performance, power, area), latency analysis of the real-time control loop, and bandwidth/throughput modeling of the bus and memory subsystem.
- Lead IP selection and make-vs-buy decisions (CPU, interconnect, PLL, ADC, USB, CAN-FD, Ethernet, memory compilers) and define integration requirements for internal and third-party IP.
- Author detailed architecture and microarchitecture specifications and partition the design into IP/sub-blocks for the RTL and verification teams.
- Define functional-safety, redundancy and reliability features appropriate for airborne/defense applications (e.g. dual/triple sensor lanes, error detection, watchdogs, wide-temperature operation).
- Collaborate with software and firmware teams to ensure the architecture supports flight stacks such as PX4 / ArduPilot and an STM32-class hardware abstraction layer (HAL).
- Support RTL design, verification, DFT, physical implementation and silicon bring-up as the architectural reference and arbiter of technical decisions.
